Reporting of telehealth services- effective 4/1/2022

What changed?
New audio-only modifier FQ is available
The definition of POS 02 has been revised, a new place of service (POS) code 10 will be added.

When will these changes go into effect?
Effective for claims with dates of service on and after April 1, 2022

Telehealth services must be reported with either Place of Service 02 or 10.
Place of service 02 is to be used when the location where health services and health related services are provided or received, through telecommunication technology. Patient is not located in their home when receiving health services or health related services through telecommunication technology.
Place of service 10 is to be used when the location where health services and health related services are provided or received, through telecommunication technology. Patient is located in their home (which is a location other than a hospital or other facility where the patient receives care in a private residence) when receiving health services or health related services through telecommunication technology.

Telehealth place of service codes must be billed with one of the following appropriate telehealth modifiers.

GT- Telehealth services via interactive audio and video telecommunications systems
95- Synchronous telemedicine service via real-time audio and video telecommunication
FQ- Service furnished using audio only communication technology
