The Alaska Mental Health Board (AMHB) and Advisory Board on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (ABADA) will meet virtually February 8-10 via Zoom. This public meeting offers Alaskans a chance to learn about statewide efforts related to the state-funded behavioral health system.

The meeting is an opportunity for beneficiaries, family members, providers of services, administrators, and agency staff, to track bills and ask questions about legislation and the legislative process.

Crisis Response for LGBTQ+ Populations February 25, 9:00am-1:00pm AKST
This webinar will address the need for the crisis continuum to be responsive to the unique needs of the at-risk LGBTQ+ population. Prescription Digital Therapeutics: Expanding Interventions for the Treatment of SUD and OUD **TODAY** February 3, 9:00-10:00am AKST
The reSET-O app is a FDA-approved prescription cognitive behavioral therapy intended to be used in addition to outpatient treatment under the care of a health care professional, in conjunction with treatment that includes buprenorphine and contingency management. In this webinar, Carolyn Greer, MD, Medical Director of the Bowen Recovery Center, in Fort Wayne, IN will share how Prescription Digital Therapeutics (PDTs) like reSET and reSET-O are helping to expand and enhance interventions for the treatment of SUD and OUD.

The National Family Support Technical Assistance Center (NFSTAC) of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) focuses on supporting families and caregivers of children who experience serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders. Attendees of this webinar will learn about a framework for an earlier and broader approach to addressing youth substance use and addiction; the impact of early experiences on neurological, cognitive, and emotional development; protective factors that can forestall and mitigate the effects of adverse experiences, including COVID, on children’s risk for substance use and addiction and tools that families can use as they support their loved ones.

Alaska Reducing Recidivism and Reentry Conference February 15-17, 8:30am-3:30pm AKST
The 17th annual conference convenes a diverse community of professionals, family members, individuals with lived experience, and others who exchange ideas, identify gaps and solutions that promote reduced recidivism and successful reentry through appropriately serving justice-involved Alaskans at all phases their justice involvement. Examples of Collaboration Happening Nationwide to Support Justice-Involved Individuals
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice is implementing a trauma-informed reentry program for women that prepares women for successful release, recovery, and employment. The Strength Through Restoration, Independence, Vision, and Empowerment (STRIVE) program offers skills training, resume-building, interview skills, and more. To learn more, click here.
In San Diego, community reentry organizations are partnering with local corrections to prepare incarcerated individuals for their return to the community through how to use a computer, writing resumes, practicing interview skills, and searching an applying for jobs online. In Colorado, Regis University is offering classes to people incarcerated at four correctional facilities. Students approved for participation learn in inside prison classrooms outfitted with big screen monitors and infrastructure to deliver university classes via video conferencing. Article: Kotzebue Iron Dog Participant Races to Raise Awareness About Suicide
Chris Collins lost his youngest brother to suicide last year. This year he will compete in the Iron Dog to spread a message of hope.
"When it is dark and cold, it just brings you down. When you're already down, it brings you even further down," he said.
The pandemic doesn't make things better, with fewer gatherings and activities happening in the community, Collins said.
