Family Violence Training: Tools for Working with Families January 11, 9:30-11:30am AST
This training is hosted by the Alaska Family Services Training Center. The dynamics of family violence can be quiet, hidden, and secretive, or obvious, acknowledged, and visible. Violence may include physical aggression, verbal abuse, or psychological harm. This can occur between intimate partners, parents and children, siblings, or it may be multigenerational. Request for Information (RFI)- Specialized Homes for Alaskan Youth With Complex Needs Due by January 17th, 2:00pm AST
The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) is assessing interest from qualified parties interested in providing 24/7 emergency, transitional, short-term and/or long-term care to youth who are experiencing co-occurring developmental disabilities, mental disorders, behavioral disorders, and/or complex medical needs. These services are expected to support better outcomes for young Alaskans by reducing episodes of crisis and reducing the number of youths going to out-of-state residential psychiatric treatment facilities or the Alaska Psychiatric Institute (API).

Technology and Its Impact on Psychiatric Care of Older Adults January 12, 11:00am-12:00pm AST

Addressing Social Determinants to Optimize Infant Brain Development January 18, 11:00am-12:00pm AST
The National Institute on Mental Health hosts Dr. Cynthia Rogers who will provide an overview of adverse exposures and their influence on child development. She will discuss exposure to poverty, crime, and pre-and postnatal exposures to psychopathology and substance use. Dr. Rogers will also discuss ongoing longitudinal studies examining the role of social determinants on neonatal brain development, subsequent social-emotional development, and prevention and intervention strategies to optimize child development.

National Advisory Mental Health Council (NAMHC) Open Policy Session February 1, 8:00am-12:30pm AST
This is an opportunity for mental health research and advocacy communities to stay informed about current programs and priorities of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). Topics discussed will include social determinants of health, structural racism and black youth mental health, inclusion of women and minorities in NIMH Research and concepts for potential future funding initiatives.

Pharmacists Prescribing for Tobacco Cessation Medications January 19, 9:00-10:30am AST

Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT) Guide: Key components for delivering community-based, medications for addiction treatment services for opioid use disorders in Alaska
The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services created this resource to provide information on clinical considerations such as screening, drug testing, and buprenorphine diversion, how to reduce stigma, an overview of opioid use disorder and alcohol use disorder medications and guidance for specific populations.

Virtual Mat-Su Reentry Summit January 11-13
This annual summit is for professionals and people with lived experience of incarceration. The emphasis of the 2022 summit is on the utilization of resources from different community service providers in order to enhance the successful reentry of returning citizens after incarceration. Both national and Alaska presenters will provide keynote and informative breakout sessions.

Alaska Reducing Recidivism and Reentry Conference February 15-17
The 17th annual conference convenes a diverse community of professionals, family members, individuals with lived experience, and others who exchange ideas, identify gaps and solutions that promote reduced recidivism and successful reentry through appropriately serving justice-involved Alaskans at all phases their justice involvement. The conference features a broad range of sessions highlighting resources for serving both youth and adults with disabilities.

Peer Power Presents: Self-Advocacy Training January 22, 10:00am-1:00pm AST
Peer Power of Alaska is hosting an interactive training designed for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It includes small group conversations, role plays and sharing stories. Alaska Center for FASD
People working in the behavioral and mental health field have regular interactions with individuals who experience an FASD. Many of the conditions caused by this brain-based disability are reflected as behaviors. Clinicians are often not trained to identify and serve the specific needs of clients with prenatal alcohol exposure. This webpage offers an overview with suggestions and resources for behavioral health providers, parents, and others.

Learning Exchange Series: How States Serve Infants and their Families Affected by Prenatal Substance Exposure 2nd session January 11, 9:30-11:00am AST
The National Center on Substance Abuse and Child Welfare (NCSACW) is hosting sessions to share a new three-part series of technical assistance briefs. The sessions feature subject matter experts and professionals from several states that currently implementing innovative policies and practices that support families affected by prenatal substance exposure. The 2nd brief highlights innovative ways states and local communities monitor plans of safe care for infants and families without open child welfare cases.

Press Release: New Medicaid Option Promotes Enhanced Mental Health, Substance Use Crisis Care
The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), is working with states to promote access to Medicaid services for people with mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) crises. Authorized under the American Rescue Plan (ARP), states have a new reimbursement options for supporting community-based mobile crisis intervention services for individuals with Medicaid.
