USDA Policy Memo 09-2024 Implementation Guidance: State Agency Financial Review Requirements
This memorandum provides a summary of the amended provisions to codify the requirement for an annual reconciliation of bank account activity and accounting of reported actual expenditures with CACFP payments. It also provides instructions for how to complete the annual verification of bank account activity and actual expenditures (Attachment A).

The Final Rule on Child Nutrition Programs: Meal Patterns with the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAs) covers a broad range of child nutrition programs (CNP) provisions, including, but not limited to, the expansion of the geographic preference option.This memorandum provides a detailed explanation of the expanded geographic preference option.
Final Rule on Meal Patterns Consistent with the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans
This rulemaking finalizes long-term school nutrition requirements based on the goals of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2020-2025, robust stakeholder input, and lessons learned from prior rulemakings. While this takes effect July 1, 2024, the Department is gradually phasing in required changes over time. Program operators are not required to make any changes to their menus as a result of this until school year 2025-26 at the earliest.

Required Annual State Agency Training for PY2025 CACFP
Please save the date for our annual training for Program Year 2025 this summer. This required training is conducted by the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development (DEED) for CACFP operators in the state. All in-person trainings will be held at the Atwood Conference Center (Robert B. Atwood Building), 550 W 7th Ave, Anchorage, AK.
Because of space limitations, we are allowing program operators only two slots per training. Any additional registrants will be waitlisted and slots will open up on a first-come, first-served basis. We encourage you to register early.

Scholarship Options to the NCA Virtual CACFP Summit
The National CACFP Sponsors Association (NCA) is hosting a Virtual CACFP Summit on Aug 14-15 and Aug 21-22. You an earn up to 16.5 hours of Continuing Education Units through workshops on nutrition, program administration, operations, financial and nonprofit management, and more. Members can avail of the early registration rate of $149 until July 31. Non-members can avail of the early registration rate of $199.

Webinar on Expanded Geographic Preference
USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) Patrick Leahy Farm to School Team (USDA Farm to School Team) will host a webinar for farm to school partners, including Child Nutrition Program operators, on the expanded geographic preference option in the final rule, Child Nutrition Programs: Meal Patterns Consistent With the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The final rule includes a small yet significant expansion of the geographic preference provision. Beginning July 1, 2024, the provision will permit CNP operators to use local as a specification when procuring unprocessed agricultural products.
