DEED's reading work is aligned to the mission, vision, and Alaska's Education Challenge through the Alaska Strategic Reading Plan and Alaska Reads Act. In an effort to support educators, DEED has developed a Reading Resource homepage that links to other reading resource pages as a source of information, communication, and connection to initiatives and work related to the Alaska Reading Strategic Plan and Alaska Reads Act. The intent is having a place for all of Alaska's education stakeholders to go for information.

The Department of Education & Early Development is pleased to announce a competitive grant application for Suicide Awareness, Prevention & Postvention funds. The purpose of the Suicide Awareness, Prevention & Postvention (SAPP) grant is to provide an opportunity for schools to support programs, practices, and policies that focus on areas that are related to the State Suicide Prevention Plan Goals and Strategies.

DEED will give competitive priority to projects that will serve at risk students in: schools designated as alternative schools, correctional facilities and regions that have historically had high suicide rates as reported by the State of Alaska Epidemiology.

Federal Programs Coordinators:
The 2021-2022 District and School Report Cards are now live. In an effort to support our districts, DEED has produced report cards through existing data collections that are published on DEED's Report Card to the Public site. Districts must publicly disseminate these report cards to all parents of students in school within your district within 30 days of receipt of this email (4 AAC 06.895). District websites can be revised to include direct links to DEED’s Report Card to the Public site.
Click here to access a sample letter to parents that can be used which includes the notification that the Report Cards are available as well as where the Report Cards can be located. Dissemination of District and School Report cards is a component of ESEA Federal Programs monitoring. Please be sure to save documentation that these Report Cards were publicly disseminated for monitoring purposes.
If you have questions regarding the Report Cards, please contact John Jones at john.jones2@alaska.gov. Thank you.
