DEED Seeking Applicants for Bond Reimbursement & Grant Review Committee
The Department of Education & Early Development (DEED) is seeking three (3) interested persons to serve on the statutory Bond Reimbursement & Grant Review (BR&GR) Committee. The committee establishes the annual Capital Improvement Project (CIP) application, develops criteria for cost-effective school construction, and sets standards for school energy efficiency, among other duties. The committee typically meets in-person once a year, with an additional 2-4 teleconferences scheduled as needed. Please see the public notice for additional details.
A selected applicant will meet one of the following qualifications and be appointed to a four-year term beginning March 1, 2023:
- A professional degree and experience in school construction (preference may be given to a registered engineer).
- Experience in urban or rural school facilities management (preference may be given to those with experience in urban schools).
- Public at large (preference may be given to a person with a background in K-12 public education at the classroom and administrator level).

Registration Open Now for 2023 Alaska Science of Reading Symposium
Registration for the 2023 Alaska Science of Reading Symposium is open now! The second annual symposium will be held April 28-30, 2023 at the Egan Center in Anchorage. Registration is free and will be capped at 1,000 attendees.

Minecraft Lincenses Available for all Alaska K-12 Classrooms
DEED has acquired statewide licensing for Minecraft: Education Edition to be used with Coding in Minecraft. Coding in Minecraft is a teaches coding on levels that can be suitable for a range of grades from upper elementary through high school. Principals: Trauma-Engaged Resources Survey Extended, Incentive Added
The survey of schools regarding their use of Alaska’s trauma-engaged resources has been extended until December 23, 2022. The Association of Alaska School Boards with funding from the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority is offering all schools who have or will complete this important survey a monetary incentive. This survey developed in conjunction with the Regional Education Lab Northwest is part of an important project to assess and enhance the resources available to Alaska schools. Each school that completes the survey will receive approximately $70-$100 depending on the final number of schools participating. Statewide results will be available, and districts can request their results as well.
DEED Invites Educators to Apply to Join the Assessment Advisory Panel
The Assessment Advisory Panel serves to advise DEED on issues related to the design, development, and implementation of an effective and secure statewide comprehensive assessment system and corresponding accountability and support systems. DEED seeks a diverse group of educators to represent the regions and ethnic groups throughout the state.
