Public Comment Period for Bond Reimbursement & Grant Review Committee Guidelines on School Prototype Design Use
The Department of Education and Early Development (DEED) and Bond Reimbursement and Grant Review Committee (BRGR) are seeking public comment on a proposed revision to Prototype Designs for Educational Facilities.
These proposed revised guidelines, originally adopted by the BRGR August 4, 2004, establish a process of analysis under the BRGR of existing prototype designs for school construction projects, as cited in AS 14.11.014(a)(4). The revisions delineate the conditions where prototype designs, including building systems, are to be considered appropriate by DEED. In addition, they establish how reuse of school designs, and building system standards, should be encouraged as cited in AS 14.11.013(a)(4), when that use results in cost savings for the project.
This new draft is a comprehensive revision to the guidelines. Key modifications include:
- Updated to reflect current statutory requirements.
- Updated to coordinate with current and future Capital Improvement Project (CIP) application guidance on relevant scoring elements.
- Provides definitions of Prototype Design and Prototype Building System for clarity.
- Adds references to, and aligns with, other current DEED publications.
If you are interested in commenting on the draft you may comment through this public notice or e-mail your comments to Wayne.Norlund@alaska.gov no later than 1:00 p.m. on July 28, 2022. The original 2004 BRGR Adopted Prototype Guidelines (pdf) is available on the BRGR webpage.
The draft revised guidelines are an attachment to this notice; if you would prefer a version in a “tracked changes” format, please contact Lori.Weed@alaska.gov.
