- For every one dollar of federal investment, the MEP generates nearly $19 in new sales growth and $21 in new client investment. This translates into $2.5 billion in new sales annually. For every $2,001 of federal investment, MEP creates or retains one manufacturing job.

Upcoming MEP Advisory Board Meeting
The next MEP Advisory Board meeting will take place on the NIST campus in Gaithersburg, MD on Wednesday, January 21st from 8:30 – 2:00pm. The meeting topics will include an update to the board on current MEP activities, as well as an update from the two Advisory Board Committees – Technology Acceleration and Board Governance. The MEP Advisory Board meeting is open to the public, and if you are interested in attending, please email Monica Claussen at monica.claussen@nist.gov so that she can ensure you have access to the NIST campus. Make it in America Grant Challenge - New Report Available
In December 2013, MEP awarded Make it in America grants to ten MEP centers in nine states for technical assistance in a variety of areas including reshoring, supply chain optimization, and workforce development. The Make it in America programs are designed to encourage U.S. companies to keep, expand or re-shore their manufacturing operations—and jobs—in America, and to entice foreign companies to build facilities and make their products here. MEP has recently released a report that provides information on project updates for these ten awards through the third quarter of Year One. Roger Kilmer’s Retirement
After over 40 years at NIST, including serving as the MEP Director from 2006 to 2013, Roger Kilmer retired from Federal service on December 31, 2014. Roger joined NIST in 1974 and held roles in the Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory, Manufacturing Extension Partnership and was most recently named the Chief Manufacturing Officer for NIST. Roger worked for 20 years in the MEP program, serving as the Deputy Director (1993 – 2006), responsible for internal operations, programmatic coordination and policy review of all activities and then as the MEP Director until 2013. He was a key driver in the creation and continued success of the MEP program. Roger has surely made his mark on the MEP system and manufacturing at large!
NIST will be having a retirement party for him at the NIST campus in Gaithersburg, MD on Monday, February 9, 2015 at 2:00pm. If you're interested in attending, please contact Monica Claussen at monica.claussen@nist.gov. All non-NIST employees will need to be registered at the visitor center in order to gain access to the campus.

NEW!!! January 27-29, 2015 Tech Scouting and TDMI Workshop Menomonie, Wisconsin
The course provides MEP representatives with the instruction and tools needed to perform Technology Scouting and TDMI services for MEP clients. This training is part of a larger collaboration between NIST MEP and RTI International to bring RTI practitioners’ new market research and scouting skills to MEP field agents.
The course approach is interactive and involves participatory activities to practice the core skills involved in promoting and performing both services including: expert interviewing, technology and market based research, intelligence and project organization and needs based analysis. The training includes demonstrations and exercises based on real-world examples of MEP projects in Tech Scouting and TDMI.
