Big Week for Manufacturing Day

Manufacturing Day 2013 is 112 days from today. Earlier this week we released the revised, revamped and really cool website for Manufacturing Day 2013. Check it out… www.mfgday.com

Manufacturing Day's co-producers, including NIST MEP, accentuated to the site’s launch by jointly issuing a press release announcing the Science Channel as the official media sponsor of the movement. As part of its sponsorship, the Science Channel is supporting Manufacturing Day across its portfolio, including the extremely popular manufacturing-focused series HOW IT’S MADE, on-line through websites and a host of social media platforms. Read Press Release.

With the official launch of the website, MEP, the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) and the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association (FMA) will be hitting the accelerator pedal for signing manufacturing companies up to host MFG DAY open houses. The trade association will be marketing the day to their members companies. More than 10 other industrial trade associations (check out the website and look for endorsers) will be pitching the idea to their members as well. Our goal for this year is 500 open houses.

We know that planning for Manufacturing Day has begun or is in the seed stages around MEP. We encourage you to get active on the new website and sign up as endorsers.

If you have any questions, please contact Zara Brunner (zara.brunner@nist.gov| 301- 975-2001) or Mark Schmit (mark.schmit@nist.gov | 301- 975-3255)

Advanced Manufacturing and Materials Technologies Opportunity

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), a partner affiliate to the Department of Energy's Advanced Manufacturing Office (DOE AMO), is seeking industry partners for short-term projects within the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF) to assess applicability and offer technical assistance of new energy efficient technologies available to the U.S. manufacturing industry.

As part of the technical assessments conducted under this program, each industry partner will be required to describe and quantify the potential manufacturing and life cycle energy savings that may be realized by the targeted technology. Selected technical assessments will focus on advanced materials and manufacturing technologies for commercial and national security applications.

Projects will be conducted over a short-time period (i.e. 1-2 months). At least 50% cost share, which can be in-kind contributions (e.g., facilities, services, and staff time), is required on the part of the industrial participant. Funds will not be provided to the industrial participant by ORNL.
