E-Cigarettes
On Monday, I voted in favor of HB 2546 which prohibits the sale of e-cigarettes to minors and there indoor use. Minors are currently able to go to the store and buy an e-cigarette containing nicotine and HB 2546 eliminates this loophole.
Erin's Law
I've had the opportunity this session of sponsoring child sexual abuse prevention legislation. SB 856 will establish educational programs in public schools to teach kids how to identify and avoid sexual abuse. On Monday, I testified in favor of Erin's Law to the House Committee on Education.
Knopp Works for Deschutes Geothermal Facility
Salem, OR – State Senator Tim Knopp (R-Bend) testified today in the Senate Committee on Environment and Natural Resources in support of bringing a federal geothermal research facility to Deschutes County. The measure, House Joint Memorial 19, would urge the U.S. Secretary of Energy and Congress to site their prospective Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy (FORGE) at the Newberry Geothermal Project in Deschutes County.

Salem, OR – A bill that will protect pets from being trapped in hot cars passed the House this Wednesday May 13th. Senate Bill 614 was co-sponsored by Senate President Peter Courtney (D-Salem) and Senator Tim Knopp (R-Bend), and allows for peace officers to enter motor vehicles and impound animals when the officer has probable cause to believe that an animal is being subjected to certain criminal offenses.
