Rethinking School Start Times
 Citing research that teenagers benefit significantly from later start times, Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) is considering adjusting school start times for the 2015-16 school year. SPPS is currently seeking input from community stakeholders in order to guide the decision, with the next community meeting being held on Aug. 11, 6 to 7:30 p.m. at 360 S.  Research shows that all young people experience learning losses when they don't engage in educational activities during the summer. To help combat this statistic, Do the Summer Countdown! You'll find lots of ideas to share or try out yourself so that Saint Paul youth stay engaged and active this summer!
 Applications are now being accepted for the 2014-15 NorthStar Youth Worker Fellowship. The fellowship engages a cohort of experienced youth work practitioners in exploration, reflection, and study to generate more wisdom, language, and leadership in the field of youth work in Minnesota. Learn more and apply here by July 18, 2014.
 More than 300,000 Minnesota children receive free or reduced-price school meals during the school year. But when summer arrives, only about 15 percent of these young people continue to access supportive meal programs. To fill that gap, Second Harvest Heartland has teamed up with the Minnesota Department of Education to help connect youth with free meals this summer. Check out the Summer Meal Map and learn more about the Summer Food Service Program.

New to the network or have contacts that might be interested in learning more about becoming a partner? Join us for Sprockets 101 on July 11, 9 to 10 a.m. at the YWCA St. Paul to learn about the different ways to get involved, including resources for quality improvement, tools for recruitment, and networking opportunities.
 On June 12, over one hundred attendees participated in the Summer Youth Institute, a day of workshops designed to prepare and refresh youth workers for summer programming. Youth workers attended sessions like "How Culture and Personal Identity Influence You as a Youth Worker," "Group Management and Engagement," "Creating Equity for Youth," and "Reflective Strategies for Individuals and Groups." A big thanks to our partners who led workshops and to Metropolitan State University for hosting!
