A key component of the project is the preservation and enhancement of two longstanding Mission San Jose historic structures, which will remain on the site and be complemented by a refreshed courtyard with additional landscaping and amenities. One of the structures, the Sunderer Boot Shop/Wells Fargo Station located at 43341 Mission Boulevard, was damaged by an electrical fire. A rehabilitation plan for the building was approved, and the applicant anticipates applying for a building permit in the coming weeks.
The project also advances key strategies identified in the City’s Mission San Jose Commercial Strategy Study. Conducted from 2018 to 2019, the study assessed the area’s potential for commercial growth and outlined strategies to support it, including concentrating revitalization efforts around Mission Boulevard and Ellsworth Street and enhancing the public realm.
Villa Ellsworth is just one of several exciting projects taking shape in Mission San Jose, marking continued investment in the area.
Together with these efforts, Villa Ellsworth will blend housing, retail, and thoughtfully integrated historic resources to support ongoing revitalization; complement the surrounding neighborhood; and bring renewed activity, growth, and cohesion to this cherished part of Fremont.
The City looks forward to seeing Villa Ellsworth move forward and remains committed to supporting Mission San Jose’s growth in a way that honors its history while embracing its future.
