Schools Against Waste team mark 500 school visits

 

Schools Against Waste has reached a brilliant milestone, completing its 500th visit to a Somerset school. The special visit took place at Priddy and St Lawrence’s Federation school, marking another step in the programme’s work to help children learn about waste, recycling and caring for the environment.

Delivered by Carymoor Environmental Trust on behalf of Somerset Council, the programme brings fun, practical and curriculum-linked environmental education into primary schools across the county. Since launching in 2018, it has visited more than 200 primary schools, delivered more than 1,000 workshops and reached more than 71,000 children.

Most Somerset primary schools can book a free half-day visit, which includes a ‘Talking Rubbish’ assembly and two one-hour workshops. Sessions cover topics such as food waste, plastics, composting and the 3Rs: reduce, reuse and recycle.

The hands-on sessions are designed to be memorable and engaging, helping pupils take what they learn back into the classroom, around their school and home to their families. A big well done to everyone involved in reaching this fantastic milestone.
