Oregon Government Ethics Commission

Accessibility Update

As a government agency, OGEC is required to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). A new rule was recently published detailing that compliance includes meeting the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 criteria. While accessibility has been a part of OGEC’s overall strategic goals, the new details gave our agency exact standards to aim for.

We’ve already completed a few projects to keep us in line with those goals, including:

  • Updating historical documents to be screen-reader friendly
  • Completing an accessibility audit of our main website
  • Working with our developer to resolve issues found in the audit
  • Putting together an accessibility team

Our accessibility team has started working on an audit of external applications with plans to work on accessible templates and plain language guides afterwards. We want to go beyond complying with the federal rule and making our agency inclusive and accessible at its foundation!
