The Board is pleased to welcome three new members: Tatiana Kaminsky, PhD, OTR/L; Maria Kelley, OTR/L, ATP; and Martha van Gelder, MOT, OTR/L. Each brings a unique background and a shared dedication to protecting and improving the health of people in Washington.
Occupational Therapist, Swedish Medical Center-First Hill – Seattle
Dr. Kaminsky has been a licensed occupational therapist in Washington since 1997. She has more than 30 years of clinical experience working with adults with a wide variety of diagnoses across inpatient, outpatient, and home- and community-based settings. She is currently working in adult acute care at Swedish Medical Center-First Hill in Seattle.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Kaminsky has worked as an occupational therapy educator. She taught full-time at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma from 2005 to 2021. She taught in adjunct and visiting teaching roles at both the University of Puget Sound and Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences in Yakima between 2022 and 2025. Her courses focused primarily on neuroscience, working with older populations, and treating adults with neurological disorders.
She is the lead author of Zoltan's Vision, Perception, and Cognition: Evaluation and Treatment of the Adult with Acquired Brain Injury (5th ed., 2023). Dr. Kaminsky holds a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Medicine, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Science, both from the University of Washington.
Senior Assistive Technology Specialist, University of Washington - Seattle
Maria Kelley has been a licensed occupational therapist since 1994. She earned her degree in Occupational Therapy from The Ohio State University.
Maria currently serves as the Senior Assistive Technology Specialist with the Washington Assistive Technology Act Program at the University of Washington. In this role, she provides consultations and evaluations for Washington residents of all ages and across the disability spectrum. She conducts assistive technology, worksite, and home modification evaluations for individuals and agencies, including the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and the Department of Labor and Industries. Her professional interests include computer access, home accessibility, and assistive technology in developing countries.
Maria brings to the board a deep understanding of the challenges occupational therapists and people with disabilities face when accessing assistive technology services and funding.
Occupational Therapist, South Kitsap School District - Port Orchard
Martha van Gelder earned her Master of Occupational Therapy from Eastern Washington University in 2018 and has been a licensed occupational therapist in Washington since 2019.
Martha currently works as a school-based occupational therapist. She also brings experience from adult day health and skilled nursing facility settings, where she provided culturally responsive care and treated people with neurological, orthopedic, and post-acute rehabilitation needs. Before pursuing occupational therapy, she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), an experience that deepened her understanding of patient care and teamwork.
In 2019, Martha presented her research on post-stroke depression at the American Occupational Therapy Association national conference, highlighting evidence-based, occupation-centered prevention strategies. She is committed to upholding the scope of occupational therapy practice, supporting ethical standards, and advocating for the practitioners and communities OT serves.
