The Overleigh Charitable Trust Orchard

The Overleigh Charitable Trust in Street manages 3 hectares of land, originally designed as an arboretum by the Clarks family. Today, it is enjoyed by local schools, with children visiting the site each week as part of forest school sessions, as well as by the Street and District Allotments Association.

As part of delivering the Somerset Tree Strategy, we’ve supplied trees to extend the small orchard, with volunteers planting a further 21 fruit trees, including apples, pears and cherry. A nut grove has also been created, featuring walnuts, hazelnuts and almond.

Biodiversity across the site has been further enhanced through the planting of nearly 100 metres of hedgerow and 450 broadleaf trees, some of which have been selected to replace diseased ash. In addition, 100 oak trees have also been planted.

A huge thank you goes to the volunteers who carried out the planting and to the donors who made this work possible.
