We're preparing the Yeovil Town Centre Masterplan to set out a strategic vision for the Town Centre. It will guide the regeneration of not just the town centre but also the wider urban area. The intention is for it to be locally adopted and to be a material planning considering, as well as informing emerging local plan policies and proposals for the town centre.
This masterplan includes an assessment of the current town centre and its heritage, building upon its key characteristics and formulating a vision, setting out design principles, and identifying various potential development opportunities. It includes a number of Council owned “opportunity sites” and seeks to maximise how the development of these sites can collectively contribute to the wider improvement of the town centre, rather than be considered in isolation.
A key objective of the regeneration strategy is to provide ambition and certainty to enhance the development conditions. This will attract further private sector investment to bring forward development on the opportunity sites and other development sites within the town centre.
The Masterplan has been subject to public consultation between 18 September and 2 November 2025 receiving significant feedback. Concerns were expressed regarding the reduction of car parking spaces in the town, these have been carefully considered and addressed in the amended strategy. There was strong support for the proposals to redevelop the Glovers Walk site and the inclusion of a mobility hub that would provide for a new bus station.
Changes have been made to the masterplan including a review of some of the opportunity sites as well as identification of further regeneration opportunities. The intention is for the Masterplan to be considered by the Planning and Transport Policy Executive Sub-Committee on 4 February 2026 with a recommendation to adopt as a material planning consideration for pre-application advice, assessing planning applications and any other development management purposes within the Yeovil town centre area.
The Masterplan and all supporting documents, including the consultation report, will be available to view on the Planning and Transport Policy Executive Sub-Committee webpage in advance of the meeting.
