Somerset is becoming a sought-after destination for Film and TV production, boosting the local economy and generating additional income for Somerset businesses. In 2025, film and TV production in Somerset generated more than £4m of spend, and that’s before you consider the benefits of people visiting places where films were made.

Screen Somerset, Somerset Council’s film office, supports, promotes and celebrates filming in Somerset; creating economic and wider benefits. It has already helped dozens of productions, large and small; from daytime TV and adverts, through period and costume drama such as Wolf Hall and Poldark, right up to major blockbusters like Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later, and lately, Axbridge featuring as the location for the 2026 TV comedy series Can You Keep a Secret? starring Dawn French.

Screen Somerset is funded from the Shared Prosperity Fund, and collaborates with Creative England’s Filming in England Partnership (FiEP). If you have a business that could support a film production, register for free with FiEP. The FiEP directory is often used by incoming productions and being on it will greatly improve your chances of attracting film-related business. Registration is free and should take a few minutes.

The main sector to benefit from location hosting is hospitality, but the film business needs a huge range of services, including:

  • Traffic management
  • Vehicle hire
  • Props
  • Storage space
  • Costume hire
  • Cleaning
  • Couriers
  • Events equipment hire
