Join us this Christmas: help tackle homelessness in Somerset
As Christmas approaches – a time of warmth, generosity, and community – Somerset businesses have a unique opportunity to make a real difference for those facing homelessness in our county.
The Somerset Homelessness Partnership, made up of statutory agencies – including Somerset Council, the NHS, and the Probation Service – alongside representatives from the voluntary sector, has launched the Somerset Homelessness Charter: a county-wide commitment to make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring.
What is the Homelessness Charter?
The Charter is a collaborative pledge bringing together councils, charities, health services, and businesses to tackle homelessness head-on. It focuses on 4 key priorities:
- Improving data insight – better data means smarter decisions and targeted support.
- Ending rough sleeping – creative accommodation solutions and rapid rehousing.
- Access to accommodation for all – affordable, suitable housing for every resident.
- Improving prevention – early intervention to stop homelessness before it starts.
How can your business help?
- Sign the Charter on behalf of your business and show your commitment.
- Join an action group – share your skills in areas like data analysis, housing access, or prevention.
- Offer resources and expertise
- Champion inclusive employment – as an employer, you can commit to supporting people who have experienced homelessness, and support your existing team if they are at risk of losing their home by signing up to the Crisis Homelessness Alliance
