During National Tree Week (22 to 30 November), which marked the start of the 2025 tree planting season, the team at Ham Hill led a major tree-planting initiative.
Thanks to support from Carbon Aware Productions and Ham and Doulting Stone, rangers, volunteers, and local community members came together to plant 3,000 native trees.
This effort has linked three previously fragmented woods in Witcombe Valley, creating a single, larger habitat. The new tree corridor enables dormice, wood mice, and other wildlife to move more freely, improving their access to food, shelter, and opportunities to connect with each other – strengthening their populations.
Increasing tree cover at Ham Hill also brings wider benefits: it helps reduce flooding, acts as a windbreak, provides shade, absorbs carbon dioxide, and produces oxygen – making the site more resilient to climate change and beneficial for everyone.
