Dig in and make a difference for National Tree Week at Ham Hill

Community Tree planting at Pitt Wood with children helping secure a stake for a newly planted tree in a woodland clearing.

To celebrate National Tree Week (22 to 30 November), we’re hosting a week of tree planting at Pitt Wood, Ham Hill, culminating with a special Community Tree Planting Day on Saturday, 29 November.

Thanks to generous funding and support from Carbon Aware Productions and Ham and Doulting Stone, we’re able to plant 3,000 native trees to boost biodiversity and help make Ham Hill more resilient to climate change.

Throughout the week, our rangers, regular volunteers, teams from Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton and Somerset Council, The Friends of Ham Hill, and members of the public will all be digging in to help get the trees into the ground.

Who’s planting and when?

  • Monday 24 November – Dry-stone walling and construction volunteers kick off the planting
  • Tuesday 25 November – Green Estates volunteers continue the work
  • Wednesday 26 November – Regular Ham Hill practical volunteers take over
  • Thursday 27 November – RNAS Yeovilton team joins the effort
  • Friday 28 November – Somerset Council staff plant the penultimate trees
  • Saturday 29 November – where anyone is welcome at our Community Tree Planting Day
