There is a federal hiring freeze currently in effect for most executive branch positions. It was extended through October 15, 2025. This means agencies are generally prohibited from hiring new employees. However, there are some exceptions, particularly for positions related to national security, public safety, and law enforcement. Even after the freeze is lifted, agencies will face restrictions, with a limit of one new hire for every four employees who leave.
