Local pupils’ creativity etched on country park’s new pond platform

Local children recently enjoyed a celebratory pond dipping session at Wilstock and Stockmoor Country Park.

Earlier this year, all pupils from Somerset Bridge Primary School were invited by our ranger team to submit drawings of creatures that live in and around ponds.

The rangers selected their favourite designs and had them etched onto the wooden rail of the park’s new pond dipping platform.

Last week the children who designed the winning entries were invited to come and see the finished result in person.

Everyone agreed the etched rail looked fantastic, and the children were delighted to see their designs become a permanent feature in the park.

During the session, they discovered a wide variety of creatures, including a water scorpion, dragonfly nymphs, and smooth newts.

The rangers will continue to use the platform for community events and educational sessions with schools. Park users are also welcome to pond dip but should ensure their equipment is clean and dry to prevent cross-contamination. Please note that fishing at Wilstock and Stockmoor Country Park is prohibited.
