Fixy at Green Scythe Fair

Working in partnership with Donate IT, our Fixy van now travels around Somerset promoting repair and reuse messages, attending events, supporting repair cafes and holding tech amnesties.

This month, Fixy had a great day out at the Green Scythe Fair on 8 June at Thorney Lakes near Langport. This one-day eco fayre run by volunteers, celebrates environmental solutions, community projects, local food and beverages, including a local homemade cider competition, local music, kids entertainment, as well as holding the South West Scything Championships.

Fixy had a stand on the edge of the scyther's arena where they spoke to 155 people and collected 45 kg of devices comprising:

• 26 mobile phones
• 10 laptops
• 10 tablets
• 12 kg of wires and chargers

These items will be wiped and upgraded or recycled by Donate IT to be reused by people in Somerset who can't afford new devices, and any un-reusable items will be stripped and recycled towards making new ones – all helping to reduce electrical waste which is a rapidly growing waste stream and includes precious metals like gold!
