Your views have helped shape the way that planning applications will be validated in the Somerset Council planning area. From 1 April 2025 all applications will need to use the updated and consolidated checklist. It reflects both the national guidance on the validation of applications and the local requirements to meet adopted Local Plan policies.
In November 2024, we ran a consultation seeking your input on our Local Validation Checklist for planning applications.
Local Validation Checklists (LVCs) help inform applicants and agents about the type of documents and level of information required to be submitted in order for us to validate a planning application and/or other consents. This is the first LVC for our planning area and where necessary it includes specific requirements from the adopted Local Plans from the former Districts while a new Local Plan for Somerset is being prepared.
We are committed to providing a professional and efficient service for all potential applicants and agents. The LVC will help them to prepare their submissions and ensure they can be validated and determined as swiftly as possible.
