In addition to a £7,500 Government grant, runner-up of Thermly’s heat pump installation competition, Jennifer Armstrong, was thrilled to receive support, as well as £2,000 towards installation costs for a Heat Pump. Living in a Victorian home in Castle Carey, Jennifer wanted a green upgrade for her old combi boiler to reduce fossil fuel consumption.
In praising Thermly’s assistance, Jennifer said:
“It was good to know Thermly would help me with the process. I think what maybe discourages people from having a heat pump installed is that they don’t have enough information – who do I go to; who do I trust? Thermly has been set up for this purpose and gave me the names of three installers which was reassuring.”
Having only heated a few rooms previously, Jennifer hopes her heat pump will provide a comfortable, all-round temperature in her home:
“We tend to heat the rooms we live in. In a house this size, it’s hard to heat the whole house. I know a heat pump will make a difference upstairs and we hope to have a wonderful all-round heating with warmer bathrooms.”
Encouraging others to switch to green heating, Jennifer said:
“We are not going to meet our climate change reduction target if we don’t have a national push for this. Heat pumps are the answer for domestic houses.
“Gas boilers don’t go on forever and the moment will come when you have to make a decision what to do and I don’t think, morally, we would have been comfortable replacing ours with another gas boiler. It will make us feel much better knowing we have taken this step to decarbonise our home. We really believe it’s the right thing to do.”
