Free employee health checks for a resilient workforce

Our Public Health team is dedicated to enhancing the health of employees across Somerset. We’re pleased to offer 3 free services designed to support your workforce's health: 'Take the Pressure Off', Workplace Health Checks and Smokefree Somerset.

These initiatives provide valuable health screenings and advice, helping to identify potential health issues early and guide employees towards healthier lifestyles.

Take the pressure off

We’re inviting workplaces across Somerset to ‘take the pressure off’ by holding free blood pressure testing at their workplace delivered by our Public Health staff.

Thousands of Somerset employees have taken part in this initiative so far and we’re seeing higher than normal readings in around a third of those who are tested. The benefit of this service, however, is that we can offer follow up testing to understand a person’s average reading, with signposting to advice and further intervention if needed.

For more information or to get involved, email bloodpressure@somerset.gov.uk.

Workplace health checks

Our workplace health checks for cardiovascular disease (CVD) aim to screen and advise employees about the potential for strokes or heart attacks within the next 10 years. This service can also reveal whether individuals are diabetic or pre-diabetic, followed up with advice and signposting to related services where required.

To generate the risk score of an individual, we take measurements such as their height, weight, and waist, along with a pulse, blood pressure reading and a small blood test which will tell us cholesterol and glucose levels. Throughout the check, we’ll also ask a few questions relating to family medical history, lifestyle and habits.

For more information or to book CVD health checks for your workplace, email NHSHealthchecks@somerset.gov.uk.

Smokefree Somerset

If you’d like to reduce sickness and absenteeism in your organisation whilst helping your employees to save money and become healthier, our Smokefree Somerset support service can help.

We offer tailored Nicotine Replacement Therapy with behavioural support in person, by telephone or text, which is proven to be 4 times more likely for smokers to quit compared to more conventional methods.

Call 01823 356222 or email smokefree@somerset.gov.uk to discuss how we can support your people to stop smoking.
