CAG Somerset prove the power of community repair

CAG Somerset provides free support to a thriving network of local Community Action Groups. The initiative is jointly backed by Somerset Council and SUEZ.

Following October’s International Repair Day, the CAG Somerset team shared the impact that repair groups they work with have had.

There are 7 CAG Somerset members who directly take action on repair and reuse. In the last 6 months together they have:

  • Held 33 repair groups
  • Saved more than £16,000 for consumers
  • Repaired more than 600 items
  • Logged almost 2,000 volunteer hours – that’s worth around £31,000!

CAG Somerset commented:

“International repair day, celebrated on Saturday 19 October, was a hit. We're happy to share just a snippet of the amazing things achieved by some CAG Somerset members.

“Our infographic shows just how much impact the repair cafe members have collectively had in the first 6 months of this financial year.

“Community action really does add up when we join together. This, of course, doesn’t count any of the happy smiles, memories or friendships made because those are not capturable by any spreadsheet!

“This has only been made possible because members have provided us with impact information - so a huge thank you to everyone who diligently collects and shares this.

“A huge well done to everyone involved in community repair action!”
