Recycling is good, but we can do better...

Whether it’s cherishing the things we already have, repairing things rather than sending them to landfill, or finding new homes for the things no longer needed – there are many simple ways to love things for longer.

Keep Britain Tidy’s annual campaign, Buy Nothing New Month, encourages us to think beyond simply recycling the stuff we don’t want anymore, as well as reduce the amount of new stuff that we buy.

November marks Buy Nothing New Month – could you take a step to reduce the amount of things you buy?

  • De-cluttering doesn’t need to mean cluttering landfill sites. Consider donating, gifting, or selling instead!
  • According to Keep Britain Tidy's research, 69% of UK adults say they try to repair or find another use for an item before throwing it away. We can save our pennies and protect the planet by upcycling and mending things!
  • Have a 'buy less' mindset - swap instead of shop, and resist impulse purchases that come with a high environmental price tag.
