Trick-or-Treating Safety Tips
From the Union County Sheriff's Office
-
- Use sidewalks and crosswalks when possible. Adults should always hold the hand of a child when crossing intersections or walking near roads.
- Be seen! Always carry a flashlight, glow sticks or use reflective tape on costumes to ensure you are visible in the dark.
- Only visit homes that are well-lit and avoid streets/areas with no streetlights.
- Travel as a group. Find local friends and family and enjoy the evening together.
- When choosing costumes, make sure your vision is not blocked and be mindful of potential trip hazards.
- Always check your child’s candy. Do not allow children to consume unwrapped or partially-wrapped candy and closely check sealed candy items for any signs of tampering. Be mindful of food allergies and choking hazards as well.
