Following another successful Easter holiday programme, our partners Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership (SASP), share how one of their many Happy Healthy Holiday programmes benefit young people across Somerset.
Somerset Youth Theatre is a safe space for those aged 6-18yrs to create, explore and find their voice through theatre and the arts.
We work hard to reach people who would not normally take part in performing arts and believe all young people are artists. Our
programme is attended by individuals with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and Special Emotional Mental Health needs (SEMH), as well as potentially vulnerable young people living in temporary accommodation.
Young people are empowered, trusted and supported to become young leaders. Many arrive low in confidence but, by the end of the week, have made friends, slept better and eaten well each day.
As part of the Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership (SASP) Happy Healthy Holidays scheme, Neroche woodlanders hold
activity days during school holidays. SASP share how these sessions benefit young people in Somerset aged 5 to 11 entitled to free school meals or could potentially be vulnerable in other ways.
“Set in a wild woodland camp in 100 acres of forest near Taunton, sessions are made of seasonal crafting, free play, quiet spaces and organised games. Young people are supported to do what they want, whether that be play in the mud kitchen, take part in craft making or helping with food preparation.
“Hot meals are cooked on the campfire and the children support with prep work and clearing up. At the end of each day, bags of
food and recipes are packed to take on the free bus ride home. Being healthy and active happens all day long without anyone
having to be told.”
