WASCLA is hosting this conversation as a way of introducing its work and coalition more broadly to the Deaf community and as an opportunity to share thoughts and ideas on improving ASL interpreter availability and services in Washington. The Washington State Coalition for Language Access (WASCLA) is an education and advocacy organization which seeks to eliminate communication barriers which prevent individuals with limited English proficiency and those who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or Deafblind from accessing essential services in all areas of life. WASCLA routinely provides educational information about the legal framework for language access rights and responsibilities; works to counter the anti-immigrant narratives; shares best practices for effective language services delivery; and engages in policy work to further these efforts.
