For far too long, law enforcement, in general, has operated in a landscape where certain activists and media organizations portray law enforcement as inherently biased or prejudiced. I wanted to share with you how our Department starkly contrasts these portrayals because our foundation is built upon diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, orientations, and thoughts. The diversity within our ranks stands as a testament to our commitment to inclusivity and fairness.
I deeply believe that diversity enriches our staff’s abilities to handle the challenges of modern policing. Serving nearly 2.2 million individuals, we have persistently enacted strategies to enlist local talent from all backgrounds who bring unique perspectives and skills, ensuring effective service delivery to the citizens of our county.
In 2023, the Sheriff’s Department budgeted staffing to increase to 4,319 sworn and professional staff positions. As we expand, our commitment remains steadfast in recruiting and promoting qualified individuals from varied backgrounds.
