Short-Term Rental Ordinance for Fremont

The City is in the process of creating a short-term rental (STR) ordinance for Fremont. An STR refers to an activity in which a “host” agrees to rent out all or a portion of a residential unit to a “guest” for less than 30 consecutive nights. The new ordinance would continue to allow STRs to operate in Fremont but would adopt regulations that fit the characteristics of the city and preserve community character.

On Tuesday, December 12, City staff will present the draft STR ordinance to the Fremont City Council for their consideration. The draft ordinance is available for public review. Comments can be submitted to David Wage, Code Enforcement Manager, by email. Comments will be shared with the City Council in advance of the meeting on December 12.

The December 12 City Council meeting will take place at 7:00 pm at the City Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 3300 Capitol Ave. The meeting agenda—which will include a staff report, the draft ordinance, and instructions on how to participate in the meeting—will be published on Friday, December 8 by 5:00 pm. The agenda will be available by visiting the City Council Agenda Center.
