The City is pleased to announce that Fremont received an overall score of A- from CDP for its climate action implementation efforts. Fremont was also awarded an A score specifically in the subcategory of climate adaptation. CDP is a nonprofit environmental disclosure platform that ranks cities on how effectively they are managing, measuring, and tackling greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate risks.
Fremont’s A score in climate adaptation reflects the City's updated Climate Action Plan, Climate Ready Fremont. This plan not only focuses on measures that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the city, but also presents numerous strategies for how Fremont can become more resilient to the effects of climate change and adapt to a changing environment. Examples of adaptation measures within Climate Ready Fremont include reducing the risks posed to the city by extreme heat, drought, flooding, and sea level rise. Climate Ready Fremont also identifies opportunities to increase community resilience through emergency preparedness activities and efforts to increase food security and establish local resilience hubs.
The City looks forward to working with the community to create a Climate Ready Fremont!
