San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Hosts Teen Human-Trafficking
Awareness Talk (T.H.A.T.)
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is dedicated to educating our youth and parents about the dangers of human trafficking in our communities. Unfortunately, teenagers are often targeted and easily victimized. Although many people assume that only children from broken homes or those with low self-esteem are at risk, the truth is that anyone can fall victim to human trafficking. The combination of advanced technology and too much privacy can be a recipe for disaster for families and communities.
In today's world, electronic devices have become necessary for adults and young people. However, many parents need to be more knowledgeable about the dangers of advanced technology and the challenges teens face today. As a result, many teens are given a device and expected to follow the rules, just like every generation before them. Unfortunately, electronic devices can open the door to countless predators who prey on our youth.
To combat this issue, the Sheriff's Department will host the Teen Human Trafficking Awareness Talk (T.H.A.T) on October 14th and 21st. This five-hour event will feature two guest speakers and provide middle and high-school-age teens and their parents with the necessary tools to maintain a healthy balance between socializing in person and online. Additionally, real-life examples of everyday teens falling victim to sextortion, exploitation, online grooming, and other internet-related crimes will be discussed. It's essential to stay informed and educated to protect ourselves and our loved ones from these dangers.
