Wellbeing & Professional Practice: Managing the Impact of RASSO Cases

The nature of our work in RASSO means that we are regularly managing distressing information. In some cases, people can experience levels of vicarious trauma or burnout as a result. Remaining unaffected is not something we should aim for.

Reflective practice and seeking additional wellbeing support (if needed) is crucial. No matter how well we may think we are coping, taking regular opportunities to reflect on our practice is an essential habit for anyone involved in RASSO cases.

To provide further support to RASSO advocates, the CPS is in the process of offering access to parts of our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) for all advocates dealing with traumatic casework. There will be a free 24/7 helpline where you can get free and confidential advice, support and signposting on a wide range of wellbeing issues. Further information about what support you can get and how to contact the EAP service, will be communicated shortly.
