Promoting volunteer-run repair groups and opportunities to get involved
Accepting donations of unwanted smart tech for reuse, including laptops, tablets, mobile phones, digital cameras and other smart devices (see below for full list) – data will be securely wiped by Donate IT before items are passed back into the community.

Frome energy roadshow

Date/time: Monday 29 April

Location: Frome Job Centre 10am - 4pm and Trinity Church Hall 5pm -7pm

Frome's team of Energy Advice Champions are popping up at Frome Job Centre and Trinity Church Hall to help Frome residents access free, impartial advice on keeping their homes warm, dry, draught-free and comfortable. The team are on hand at Frome Job Centre from 10am to 4pm, and at Trinity Hall from 5pm to 7pm, and anyone can drop in at any point in the session for a chat about energy efficiency over tea and cake.

Frome retrofit talk

Date/time: Tuesday 30 April. 7.30pm - 9pm

Community Retrofit Lead Sally Richards is hosting the first of a series of Frome Community Retrofit talks on Tuesday 30th April, 7:30pm - 9pm at Frome Town Hall.

Sally's first talk will include a general introduction to retrofitting, beginning with an introduction to Green and Healthy Frome, an exploration of the retrofit project, why they are doing it, what is on offer and what they are hoping to achieve.

The main talk will be delivered by a speaker from the Centre for Sustainable Energy.

Frome Healthy Homes energy efficiency drop in sessions 

Date/time: May - June 

Location: Frome Library

Frome’s Healthy Homes team is back in 2024, offering free advice and practical support for residents to make their homes warmer, drier, greener, and cheaper to run, improving mental and physical health, and reducing the risk of mould, damp and damage to the fabric of buildings. The Healthy Homes team can advise on both short and long-term solutions and can direct you to grant funding where it’s available.

To find out how you can have a warmer home, drop into an Energy Café at Frome Library between 10am and 4pm on these dates.

Into the light 2 day rewilding event

An exciting new two-day rewilding event is taking place at Heal Rewilding’s foundation site near Frome in Somerset, bringing together experts, enthusiasts and newcomers to the topic.
Into The Light, happening on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 May 2024, will explore successes and new developments in rewilding, share stories of nature recovery, and consider how being in nature can boost wellbeing and help alleviate the impact of living in one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world. Tickets can be bought for one or both days.

Yeovil Country Park Bat Walk

Date/time: Thursday 16 May 8.30pm - 10.30pm 

Location: Yeovil Country Park

Join the rangers for a walk around Ninesprings to learn about bat ecology and how the rangers manage the country park with bats in mind. The walk will use bat detectors to listen out for bats in the woods as it gets dark. The walk will culminate at the lake in Ninesprings where, hopefully, the bats will put on a fantastic display.

A joint event by Somerset Climate Action Network and Community Action Groups Somerset.

An interactive day developing connection across Somerset communities to encourage climate action and community wellbeing. All are welcome including individuals, community groups and councils.

Join us for panel discussions, workshops and the opportunity to connect with your local community over tea, coffee and cake!

We will hear from leaders and experts in business, the public sector and communities who will discuss a range of topics including the circular economy and our vision for 2030. There will be plenty of opportunity for open discussion and participation both in the panel discussions and through fun, interactive workshops.

Attendees will also be able to input into the development of Somerset’s Local Nature Recovery Strategy

Attendees to bring their own packed lunch to participate in a community indoor picnic. Light refreshments will be provided.

A Green Ilminster event with Helen Gillingham

World Bee Day Celebrations at Ham Hill

Did you know that bumblebees have smelly feet? Or that they evolved in the Himalayas? Celebrate World Bee Day with us!

Aimed at families with children aged 4 and over. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

No need to book, just turn up between 12pm and 3pm! Find us outside the Ham Hill Rangers’ Office. Free to attend, but we welcome a donation of £2 towards future events.

Frome International Climate Film Festival 

Date/time: 19 May. 9am - Midnight

Location: Cheese and Grain, Frome

Entry: Free, donations are welcomed

The Frome International Climate Film Festival will run all day with workshops, events and 675 fascinating films from over 50 countries. Children and family focussed entertainment including arts, dance, a spiritual room and eco-fashion will be held during the morning. Followed by more films with specific workshops and the technology knowledge sharing zone. The day will come to a close with the Frome International Climate Film Festival red carpet award ceremony and the post award party.

Dry Stone Walling training at Ham Hill

The South West England Branch of the Dry Stone Walling Association (SWEDSWA) will be holding a training day at Ham Hill on 25th and 26th May 2024. The course costs £100 per person for the two days and is suitable for complete beginners through to intermediate level. The course at Ham Hill will be led by our ranger Geoff Rowland this year. Frome's Big Green Week

Event submissions are now open for Great Big Green Week 2024, a national celebration of biodiversity, sustainability and caring for the planet, which runs between 8 and 16 June. Events can be for any age, free or ticketed, indoor or outdoor, and organised by any individual, group or organisation. The only criteria for being part of Frome’s Great Big Green Week are that the event has an environmental, biodiversity or climate-friendly theme, and takes place in and around Frome.

Frome has been part of Great Big Green Week since 2021 and the programme has featured a wide range of events including a river festival, planet-friendly family picnic, walks, talks, workshops, clothes swaps, bike rides and more.
