Community help to cut carbon

The Community Council for Somerset, operating as Thrive, is supporting voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise buildings to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprints. The initiative offers practical tools such as DIY Energy Checks, Carbon Reduction Plans and funding advice, empowering organisations to understand their energy use and take meaningful action. Delivered by E3 Sustainability, the programme includes fully funded energy audits (worth £750) to identify cost-saving, low-carbon opportunities and encourage behaviour change.

This project has been funded by Somerset Council and the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, reinforcing a shared commitment to building greener, more resilient communities across the county.

Warm Homes Local Grant

The Warm Homes Local Grant, funded by the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero, is helping us reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency in fuel-poor homes. Running from April 2025 to March 2028, the scheme offers free upgrades such as insulation, solar panels and clean heating systems to eligible households. Properties must have an EPC rating of D or below and meet income or benefit criteria. Delivered on our behalf by the Centre for Sustainable Energy, the grant is currently fully subscribed for year one, but applications are open for future funding rounds.
