Preparing for NRCC Activation

One aspect of preparing for a NRCC activation is having everything that may be needed ready to go when you are deployed.   By identify and collecting the items needed ahead of time, this reduces the risk of forgetting and having to go without an item. Members of NRCS Incident Support Cadres should prepare for both travel and non-travel NRCC activations. FEMA Incident Support personnel have one of two types of deployments: (1) NRCC deployment with no travel requirement or (2) NRCC deployment with travel requirement. Either of these deployments can be notice or no-notice deployments.

Suggested Preparedness - NRCC Deployment with no-travel requirement (Activation Bag + Checklist)

An “Activation Bag” is a bag intended to support an incident support person through their 12-hour NRCC Shift (day or night).

A “Checklist” is a list of items that may be needed in addition to your “Activation Bag”. The checklist identifies those items that are not kept exclusively in the “Activation Bag” but that should be included in the “Activation Bag” when deployed.

An example of a NRCC deployment with no-travel requirement: FEMA HQ employee who is a member of a NRCS Incident Support Cadre and is deployed to the NRCC at FEMA HQ.

Suggested Preparedness - NRCC Deployment with a travel requirement (Go Bag)

A “Go Bag” is a bag that FEMA personnel use when they are deployed (in travel status) to the NRCC location that is not their primary duty station (PDS).

Two examples of a NRCC deployment with travel requirement are:

Example 1:  FEMA HQ employee who is a member of a NRCS Incident Support Cadre and is deployed to the NRCC at Mount Weather Emergency Operation Center.

Example 2: FEMA National Emergency Training Center employee who is a member of a NRCS Incident Support Cadre and is deployed to the NRCC at FEMA HQ.

The “Activation & Go Bag Preparedness Guide” suggests items NRCC Incident Support personnel should have as part of their Activation Bag & Checklist and Go Bag.  Preparing ahead of time will allow FEMA NRCC IS personnel to deploy with everything they need in little-to-no notice.
