San Bernardino County Public Works – Special Districts celebrated the completion of Snowdrop Road with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, April 22. Construction started in May of 2021 for this $6 million dollar project. Snowdrop Road is located in the unincorporated area of Rancho Cucamonga connecting Archibald and Haven Avenues.
The project entailed construction of 2.1 miles of new asphalt roadway, retaining walls, drainage infrastructure and guardrails. Historically, this unimproved dirt road struggled with significant weather erosion that made the road impassable at times and portions of the road could only accommodate one- way traffic.
The new road accommodates two-way traffic and provides safe driving conditions and access for emergency responders in this high fire risk area. The new drainage infrastructure will provide long-term protection from major erosions and flooding events.
“This project is one of the most challenging Public Works has undertaken, not just because of the unique topography and exposure to significant weather conditions, but because it included an assessment district formation, funding through public bonds, environmental protection work, and more than 50 easement acquisitions, in addition to the design and construction work,” said San Bernardino County Public Works Director Brendon Biggs. “Our project management team and the contractor worked hard and explored every option to ensure the project stayed within budget and be 100% completed before the winter season.”
“Moving forward, the Public Works team will continue to support the residents on the upkeep of this district, including necessary maintenance and additional guiderails, which will be coming soon,” Biggs said.
