
USDA FNS Southeast Regional Administrator, Willie C. Taylor was on hand to greet and provide remarks to South Carolina WIC State and local agency staff at their first in-person statewide meeting and training since COVID-19. Taylor thanked staff for their hard work and dedication over the last 2 years and recognized them for their accomplishments.
SERO WIC Branch Chief Sandy Benton-Davis, and Team Lead Tihesha Salley shared reflections of WIC innovation and modernization efforts and encouraged meeting attendees to consider ways to strengthen their programs. The conference agenda focused on the foundations of nutrition service and included a demonstration of the State’s new TeleWIC system. The meeting brought attention to a broad range of topics such as the future of remote operations, breastfeeding promotion and support, staffing, and retailer operations. Session discussions about centralized appointments and a WIC mobile application made it clear South Carolina WIC has embraced WIC innovation and modernization. There was excitement and a high level of engagement from the State staff during the meeting.
