Magnox is continuing to build a picture of the work needed before EDF Energy’s first advanced gas-cooled reactor (AGR) transfers to the NDA and Magnox for decommissioning, post defueling.
Following the Government and EDF decision last year, the first two AGR stations (Hunterston B and Hinkley B) have commenced defueling and are forecast to transfer in 2026. Both sites are adjacent to the Magnox Hunterston A and Hinkley A stations.
A recent workshop between Magnox and EDF counterparts addressed the key strategic assumptions for transfer that will underpin what is called, the Blueprint. The Blueprint, focused on the first AGR station Hunterston B, will set out the work needed for a successful transfer and will act as a template and learning basis for subsequent transferring stations.
Emma Regan, Magnox’s Head of Programmes – Future Missions, said: “We have built a positive and collaborative relationship with EDF, our recent workshops have enabled us to gain strong alignment and agreement on our shared ambition. There is still a lot of work to do and much work to deliver the transfers in the coming months and years, but we are on track to create the Blueprint by the end of this year.”
