The County Family is mourning the sudden loss of Fleet Management Director Ron Lindsey.
“I and my colleagues on the Board of Supervisors are devastated by Ron’s sudden passing over the weekend,” said Chairman Curt Hagman. “Our hearts go out to his wife Nan and all of Ron’s loved ones, especially his Fleet Management team. I wish Ron’s family my deepest condolences, he has left a lasting impression on our county and will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege to know him.”
The way in which Ron approached the world and his job serve as an example to us all. Ron was always friendly, eager to help, and took care of his employees, all while constantly building upon his department’s status as one of the nation’s leading fleets. San Bernardino County Fleet Management has been named the nation’s best fleet twice in the past six years, including this year, and they are routinely named one of the 100 best fleets in North America.
Ron discussed his team’s success in a video produced in May of this year.
A resident of San Bernardino, Ron was appointed Fleet Management Director in 2017 after we successfully recruited him back from the City of Anaheim, where he served as fleet operations superintendent from 2012 to 2017. Prior to that, Ron worked in San Bernardino County from 2005 to 2012, serving briefly as Fleet and Stores Manager before promoting to Fleet Services Manager in 2006.
"I was heartbroken to hear of Ron's unexpected passing,” said Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Dawn Rowe. “His enthusiasm, intelligence, and leadership style contributed to the success of our County's Fleet Management. He will be greatly missed, but his positive contributions to the County will be with us for many years. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and his entire team in Fleet Services during this very difficult time."
“What I most appreciated about Ron’s leadership was how he mentored and encouraged young people,” said Supervisor Janice Rutherford. “He loved having high school students tour Fleet and enjoyed talking with them about careers in the county. His commitment to customer service and his drive to help the County excel will be missed.”
“It is with heavy hearts we learn of the passing of our beloved Fleet Management Director Ron Lindsey,” said Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr. “His knowledge, passion, efforts, and goals will forever pave the way for our county’s growth. We will truly miss him, and honor him now and always. May he rest in peace.”
“Ron Lindsey was an important member of our San Bernardino County family,” said Col. Paul Cook, Ret. “While I didn’t know him personally, I constantly heard about the outstanding work that Ron and our entire Fleet Management Department did to make our county the number one fleet management department in the country. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and coworkers during this difficult time.”
“Our friend Ron and his shining personality are going to be deeply missed by me and everyone on the County’s leadership team who had the honor and pleasure of working with him,” said County Chief Executive Officer Leonard X. Hernandez. “Ron serves as a model of great leadership by the passion he had for making his team members know they are valued, his success at meeting the needs of his customers, and the national accolades he and his team routinely and deservedly win.”
“Ron’s ever-present smile and his genuine warmth will never be forgotten,” said Assistant Executive Officer Diana Alexander. “Ron has always been and will continue to be an inspiration to everyone who strives to be positive, compassionate, and effective.”
“Ron is everything we can expect and hope for in a public servant,” said Deputy Executive Officer Michael Jimenez. “Always at the forefront of his mind was how vital it is that County departments have safe and reliable transportation to meet the many needs of those we serve in this expansive county. He consistently accomplished his mission with enthusiasm, humor, an inherent and deep sense of responsibility, and an unwavering love and appreciation for his Fleet Management employees.”
