Family Campout Success!

The Family Campout was such a great way to end the summer! Thank you to everyone that joined us and we hoped you enjoyed camping under the stars. e had a great time cooking and roasting marshmallows with you. We are already looking forward to camping again next year.

It's time to check out and register for fall 2022 classes and upcoming events. Our fall classes and programs are starting in August and September, going through December. We have classes featuring fitness, art, dance, and water fitness. Youth and Tot classes include arts, enrichment, sports, and dance. Registration is open to both Residents and Non-Residents on ESREC.org. You can also visit us in-person at the Clubhouse or Joslyn Center in Recreation Park to register. Go Fly a Kite Day Success!

Fly Kite
On Sunday, August 7th, the sky was colored with kites on our Go Fly a Kite Day event. We ran out of the 50 free kite giveaways in just 15 minutes! It was a very big success with smiles on every face. We hope to see everyone again next year.

Summertime, Summertime: A Community Juried Art Exhibition
On View Through September 30th

Summertime
A celebration of summer expressed through art, Summertime, Summertime: A Community Juried Art Exhibition showcases our local artists of all ages. Artists were asked to reflect on summer and share their talents with the community through drawing, painting, collage, photography or any 2D medium. Summertime, Summertime is on display in the Library's Reading Lounge through September 30th. This community art show is funded by the Cultural Development Program.

Craft 'n Chat

Craft 'n Chat
Meet other crafters and invite your friends to join the fun! Craft 'n Chat is a relaxed crafting social hour designed for adults to gather and be creative. All levels of crafters are welcomed, and all supplies are provided for free while they last. Craft 'n Chat meets in the Library's Community Room on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month, 12:00PM to 1:00PM. Best in Show: Dog Portraits by Stephen Holman

Best in Show
The El Segundo Public Library is happy to feature artist Stephen Holman's dog portraits through September 30th. Best in Show was installed towards the end of August in honor of National Dog Month. Stephen's K-9 portraits are all unique to each dog breed and guaranteed to make you smile. Stephen will also be leading a teen art workshop for ages 12 - 17 years from 3:30PM to 5:30PM on Thursday, September 22nd, in the Library's Community Room. The Frugal Environmentalist by Kathleen Jacecko

Join TeachingGreen's Kathleen Jacecko at 7:00PM on Monday, September 19th, in the Library's Community Room for her presentation, "The Frugal Environmentalist: How to Lighten Your Load on Planet Earth without Breaking the Bank." Living an environmentally-friendly "green" life doesn't have to be complicated, expensive or inconvenient. Learn how an ordinary South Bay family of three has significantly reduced their impact on the environment and kept their bills well below average using tricks and gadgets they have discovered over the past 20+ years. Leave empowered to do your part without sacrificing your quality of life. This program is funded by the City's Cultural Development Program.

Just for Teens!

Teen Art
Teens are encouraged to join other teens and their friends for specially planned activities for ages 12 to 17 years. Crafteen returns in September on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month from 3:30PM to 4:30PM. On September 14th, teens can enjoy a popular anime movie during Ani-Make: Anime Movie and Crafts from 3:30PM to 4:30PM. Artist Stephen Holman will lead teens through a special workshop on pet portraits at 3:30PM to 5:30PM on Thursday, September 22nd. Teens are encouraged to bring photos of their favorite pet to this workshop. September’s teen programs meet in the Library’s Community Room. Cyanotype Prints Workshop with Artist Hadley Holliday

Join us from 1:00PM to 3:00PM on Saturday, September 24, for a very special cyanotype workshop with artist Hadley Holliday. Ms. Holliday, a Southern California-based artist, has shown her work internationally. Her experience includes LACMA, MOCA, Acme, Facebook Artist in Residence and much more. We encourage participants to bring objects from home that could be used in the cyanotype process. This workshop is for participants 18 years and up and will meet in the Library's Community Room. El Segundo Public Library's Evening Book Discussion Group
Returns in Person in September!

Book Club
Join other book enthusiasts as we discuss books! Titles vary monthly and can be checked out from the library while supplies last. September's title is Iona Iverson's Rules for Commuting by Clare Pooley. The Evening Book Discussion Group meets on the last Wednesday of each month, from 6:30PM to 7:30PM in the Library's Community Room. November and December will have schedule adjustments due to the holidays. Books are available at the Reference Desk for check-out while supplies last.
