We're encouraging children aged 4 to 12 to take part in the Summer Reading Challenge again this year, when the theme is Gadgeteers, ‘discover the amazing science and innovation behind the world around us’.
The Challenge is simple; children read whatever they like in their chosen format over the summer holidays to receive incentives and a certificate once they’ve completed it. They can read fiction, fact books, poetry, joke books, picture books or graphic novels.
Audiobooks and eBooks can all be used to complete the Challenge and Cumbria Libraries Borrowbox service is a great way to get free access to eBooks and eAudiobooks for the Summer Reading Challenge.
The Summer Reading Challenge begins in Cumbria Libraries on 16 July and ends in the middle of September, giving children plenty of time over the summer to borrow, read their 6 books and come back to the library to tell us what they’ve read.
The Cumberland Building Society has generously supported this year’s challenge with the prizes of Kindle e-readers. All completers of the Summer Reading Challenge will be entered into a prize draw for the chance to win a Kindle e-reader.
Signing up is free, you just need to be a library member (which is also free!)
If you are not a member of the library, you can join for free, and get instant access to the library service’s online resources - including thousands of books, magazines and comics.
Children can also access extra content online at the Reading Agency’s Summer Reading Challenge website, and make sure to check out Cumbria Libraries Facebook pages for upcoming library activities.
