All smiles at CASS Jubilee Party

Create a Smile Scotland (CASS) recently celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with afternoon tea parties across three East Ayrshire venues.

The Cumnock-based charity organised events at Rowantree Court in Drongan, Ellisland Court in Mauchline and Afton Court in New Cumnock, with free sandwiches, cakes and plenty of tea. There was also local entertainment, music, dancing, and even a speech from ‘the Queen’.

CASS secretary, Amy McEwan, told us more about the events and how great it was to have people socialising again after the loneliness and isolation of the pandemic:

“We’re very aware, through working during the pandemic, how many individuals have been affected by social isolation – something which continues to affect people despite things now being more open and restrictions being virtually non-existent now.”

“After such a difficult two years it was really lovely to have everyone together, singing and dancing, and just having fun and laughing. We were very impressed with some of the music choices – we had everything from Sydney Devine to Ariana Grande!

We had a great time on all three days and are very grateful to Vibrant Communities, who gave us the use of their halls. We’d also like to thank our Community Partner, Shire Housing, who secured funding via the Community Recovery Grant which allowed us to provide the afternoon teas.”
