The East Ayrshire ‘Reclaim the Night’ March was a great success and the perfect way to mark International Women’s Day 2022.

The event, which took place on Tuesday 8 March, was organised by The STAR Centre and East Ayrshire Violence Against Women Partnership (EAVAWP). As crowds gathered and the march got underway, participants joined together in defiance of gender based violence, stating that no woman should face the threat of sexual harassment while out walking in Kilmarnock.

The STAR Centre’s Pamela Drenth gave an excellent speech before the march began. In attendance was Katie Kelly, Robert McCulloch and a number of East Ayrshire Council officers, along with the STAR Centre’s drumming band, STAR Beats, to lead the march. Councillor Jim McMahon, White Ribbon Scotland Ambassador for East Ayrshire, was also there, along with Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

There was a fantastic atmosphere of empowerment as all attendees, including members of the public, followed the STAR Beats drummers on a circuit of the town centre, with banners, whistles and glow sticks.

Well done to everyone who took part in this amazing event and made it so memorable.
