Not sure what to write?

The best blogs are usually short and informal in style – and a snappy title never goes amiss either!

You don’t need to be an experienced writer – you just need a good idea.

Here’s a list of top tips for budding bloggers that will hopefully have you jotting down ideas in no time…

The fewer words you use, the better.

As we said before, the best articles are usually short and to the point. This makes it easier to get your main idea across quickly and you’re much more likely to hold a reader’s interest.

Keep a notebook handy to jot down ideas.

By your bed, in your work bag, on your coffee table, or even just using your mobile phone…it doesn’t matter. If you have a brilliant article idea and note it down there and then, you’ll be far less likely to forget all about it later.

Read other people’s blogs.

It’s a well-known tip among successful writers that to develop your own skills, you need to read the work of others. From sentence structure, vocabulary, pace, tone…(the list goes on), reading will help you improve it.

Keep it simple.

Try to steer clear of overly elaborate phrases and get your point across clearly and with as few words as it takes you to get there. That way most people will have no trouble understanding what you’re talking about (which is the main goal here!)

Do some research.

There’s no need to set up camp in your office and scroll through pages and pages of scholarly documents. Research your topic online and see where it takes you. Reading what’s already out there will help shape your own opinion on a subject and may even give you some ideas that challenge your own beliefs. Just make sure your information has been fact checked and is coming from reliable sources.

Create a distraction free environment.

You’ll probably know this already thanks to working from home! However, it’s easy to forget that your environment can have a real impact on your ability to focus. So…do yourself a favour and put your phone on ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode for an hour (or better yet, switch it off) and dedicate that time to just you and your writing.
