New Affordable Housing for Fremont

At the regularly scheduled Council meeting on Tuesday, November 2, the Fremont City Council unanimously approved funding awards for three new affordable housing developments in Fremont. Collectively, these projects will bring approximately 400 to 500 new affordable rental units to Fremont for households earning up to 80% of the area median income. A brief description of each project is available below.

MidPen Housing received an award of $14 million for the acquisition and pre-development of the property located at 41965 and 42021 Osgood Rd. to facilitate the development of Affordable Housing on Osgood apartments. This 2.7-acre site development is within ¼ of a mile of the future Irvington BART Station. The proposed project will have 191 to 274 units consisting of one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom units. Additional funding of up to $11.5 million will be awarded to the project once MidPen conducts community outreach and works with the City to refine the design of the project.

The Pacific Companies (TPC) and Maracor Development received an award of $6 million to develop Osgood South Apartments to be located at 41911 Osgood Rd. This 0.79-site development is also within ¼ of a mile of the future Irvington BART Station and is directly adjacent to another affordable project by TPC and Maracor (Osgood Apartments) that is currently underway. Osgood South will have 100 units consisting of studio, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom units.

Resource for Community Development (RCD) received an award of $7.6 million for the acquisition and pre-development of the 1.05-acre site at 3900 Thornton Ave. Located in the Centerville District, the project will have approximately 128 units consisting of studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom units. Additional funding of up to $9.7 million will be awarded to the project once RCD conducts community outreach and works with the City to refine the design of the project.

The construction schedules for these projects have yet to be determined, but the City anticipates they will be completed by 2025-2026. Anyone interested in receiving information when the units become available can sign up for the City’s Affordable Housing Interest List.
